She was part of the Kérastase T.E.C.H. and Shu Uemura Artistic Teams as an educator for five years. A stylist since 1998, she specializes in everything, whether it's cutting hair, styling with flat irons and curling irons, blowouts, bang-taming, special occasion updos and Japanese thermal straightening. Amy has been featured in Allure, W, Glamour, Marie Claire, O the Oprah Magazine, Lucky, Shape, Sophisticate's Hairstyling Guide, Chicago magazine, CS, Michigan Avenue and at Behindthechair.com, Refinery29.com, StyleList.com, InStyle.com, Byrdie.com, and cnet.com. **Where did you start your career?** I love hair just as much as music. I started playing guitar in rock bands as a teenager, and I unofficially began my career "cutting my teeth" on my bandmates in high school. I would do their hair for photo shoots, videos and live performances, and I realized my passion for the craft. For me, their image was just as important as the music. I was having so much fun doing it, I enrolled in cosmetology school to learn how to do it professionally. **What has been your career high?** My ultimate dream was always to make it to New York Fashion Week to work with models and designers, and see my work walk down the runway. It's the most important fashion event because of its global influence how the press views fashion in the form of clothing, hair, and makeup. I've had the honor of working under lead stylist Odile Gilbert's team representing Kerastase for Theory, The Row, Rachel Zoe, Rodarte, Thakoon, Jason Wu, Monique Lhuillier, Phillip Lim, Jill Stuart, Adam, Suno, Libertine and Creatures of the Wind. **What is your hair specialty?** I specialize in cutting, styling and blow-drying hair. I also enjoy working with hot tools and special occasion styling. **What do you do in your free time?** I have a serious case of wanderlust, so I'm always planning my next trip. I love exploring the world and different cultures, and believe travel is the best form of education a person can receive. **Any celebrity clients?** I don't like to kiss and tell, but I adore doing musicians. In my opinion, they are the only people that speak the absolute truth. **Who is your style icon?** David Bowie. He was uncompromising in his vision and his style was worn with absolute confidence. **What is your biggest secret?** My biggest beauty secret is my blow-drying technique to eliminate cowlicks in bangs. I teach all my clients how to do it. It's simple, and only requires a paddle brush and a blow dryer. If your bangs look good, typically the entire style looks good. **What is the hair care product you can't live without?** Hairspray is my desert island beauty product. With hairspray, a good cushion brush, an elastic band and a few bobby pins, I can create just about anything. **Amy's haircuts are $150.00** - [Instagram](https://instagram.com/amyabramitehair/) [View Profile](https://www.maxinesalon.com/team/amy/) ### Addison — Stylist **Addison** is most inspired by clients who love exploring their look and feel excited to try something new. She thrives behind the chair when she gets to be creative, experimenting, playing with fresh ideas, and helping people express their individuality in a way that feels genuine and fun. Addison loves enhancing what makes each person’s hair naturally beautiful and creating styles that feel authentic, effortless, and truly reflective of who they are. **Where did you grow up?** I grew up in The Amana Colonies, a small German town in Iowa. When I was 12, I moved with my family to Saugatuck, Michigan. **What is the best thing about working at Maxine?** The best thing is feeling so welcome and at home. Each individual is celebrated and encouraged to be their best selves. It is a huge privilege to grow my skill set here. **What does your job entail?** I have the privilege of experiencing many different personalities each day and of making people feel like their most beautiful and confident selves. **What is one special thing that everyone should know about Maxine Salon?** Maxine is a team driven environment. It’s not just about great hair, its about supporting each other, delivering a consistent client experience and showing up with a positive, reliable attitude every day. **What is the best decade for hair?** The 90s! People were so creative with updos and the hair all around in that time was (mostly) GORG! **What was the worst decade for hair and why?** The 2000s. Not the cute spiky updos, but (sorry/not sorry) the frosted tips, scary highlights, choppy layers and the perms. They were not executed as well as they are now. **What is your biggest secret?** I can’t tell you that! **Addison’s haircuts are $90.00** - [Instagram](https://instagram.com/Addison.does.hair/) [View Profile](https://www.maxinesalon.com/team/addison/) ### Becca — Stylist While Becca is known for her long, lush haircuts, she also excels at cutting long bobs with interior layers and flatiron styling. He also has a flair for men’s styles, for which he has garnered quite a loyal following. “A great haircut can be transformative,” he says. “It affects your whole psyche.” And how can you tell it’s a great haircut? “You can tell by how well it grows out, and how well the client can style it him/herself. I want my clients to look as good in four weeks as they do when they first leave the salon.” **Where did you grow up?** South side of Chicago **What does your job entail?** Fulfilling dreams and creating smiles. **What is one special thing everyone should know about Maxine salon?** We support each other and each believe that you’re only as good as your last cut. She caught the fever, decided to pursue an education in the hair industry and never looked back. During her time in Cosmetology School she searched for more advanced education. She attended Nick Arrojo’s workshop in Chicago and would later find herself in New York soaking up the knowledge from Arrojo team members. Lauren advanced her color and cutting skills, knowing it would set her apart in the color world. Having the knowledge of cuts and styles only helped her to customize her color techniques. She graduated with high honors from her cosmetology classes and started her journey at Maxine Salon. Maxine offers further advanced education and Lauren eagerly jumped right in! She stays current and on trend with in-house education programs including L’OREAL professional artist Suzie Bond along with Oribe and Kerastase’s team. Even with in-house education and an advanced color program, Lauren still challenged herself by being further educated by some of the best colorists in the city during her time off. She sought out as many educators as she could learn from to make herself well-rounded and able to develop her own style of coloring. Lauren found her love for double-process colors and cool tones so she flew out to LA to study with celebrity platinum specialist Nicolas Jequiers. She came back eager to show her team the new cutting-edge color techniques she mastered. During her travels, she has networked with many industry insiders and was asked to model for Anthony Thomas Galante’s Spring and Summer 2022 collection. That collaboration in turn developed more connections with Color Specialists, Cutting Specialists, make-up artists and photographers. “It is vital to stay educated and on top of today’s trends in order to create a look that is both specialized and suitable for my client”. **What is one special thing that everyone should know about Maxine salon?** Maxine Salon is departmentalized and that means we specialize in either cutting or color techniques. General knowledge is one thing, but specializing allows us to really develop our skills which further benefits the salon guest. Two specialists create a “hair team” that can create a unified vision with fine-tuned personalized results. At Maxine we MAXimize our clients salon experience. **What is your hair specialty?** I love all aspects of color but find myself very excited to create platinum and cool tones for my guests. In addition, I enjoy dimensional colors like balayage and highlights. Working with natural texture, enhancing a specific cut, while always considering my guests lifestyle, maintenance and suitability is paramount. **Who is your style icon? Why?** Sophia Richie Grainge and Miley Cyrus. Sophia is one of my style icons because her outfits are timeless. When you see her, you recognize her true beauty features. Her eyes are not overwhelmed by her hair color, makeup, and outfits. She proves less is more! She stays true to her style and throughout her wardrobe you can see her personality shine through her looks. Miley, on the other hand, brings out a fun, edgy, sexy look. Whether she is a classic brunette or a platinum blonde she knows how to work it! Her look has evolved through the years and has kept her a fashion icon. She leaves everyone wanting more. Sophia and Miley find a way to stand out from their peers and stay at the top of the trendsetters. **What was the best decade for hair and why?** The one we are in currently! Looking at hair decades we see that we’ve come a long way! We’ve grown from the 80’s over processed, bleached capped highlights to the early 2000’s structured blocked colors and over straightening hair. Now we are now in the time where “lived in hair” is on the rise. Healthy soft hair that moves and is visually enhanced with specific color techniques is the hair of today. Lorena’s signature looks include balayage, bleach and tones, men’s grey blending and everything from bold fashion shades to subtle dimension colors. She loves bringing her clients’ imagination to life and describes it as the best feeling when they leave her chair with exactly what they’ve envisioned. **What is the best thing about working at Maxine?** The best thing is how everyone has their own way of doing color and cuts and yet everyone is getting to a beautiful outcome. I love seeing and comparing everyone’s personal touch. **What do you do in your free time?** Reading, checking out new places to eat, shows and movies, and looking to plan my next trip. **What was the best decade for hair and why?** This current decade is my favorite because it has no start or end, trends are currently being recycled with a new name and you can walk into a salon and want a root touch up or have a full on make over. - [Instagram](https://instagram.com/low.rain.ahhh/) [View Profile](https://www.maxinesalon.com/team/lorena/) ### Liell — Stylist and Colorist With more than forty-two years of experience, this master stylist and colorist brings a rare blend of artistry, technical precision, and genuine passion to every client they serve. After 25 years of dedicated service in New York City, Liell returned home to Chicago, bringing with him a wealth of experience, refined expertise, and a deepened artistic perspective. His career began by assisting the national artistic director of a 40-salon company, where he also trained alongside a lead L’Oréal colorist. This early exposure to high-level color work sparked a lifelong love for the craft. Eager to expand his skill set, Liell later trained with Vidal Sassoon, learning the architectural principles of precision cutting. This foundation shaped his signature approach: treating hair as a canvas where structure, movement, and color come together to create a look that feels both elevated and effortless. Rather than chasing trends, Liell focuses on personalized, boutique styling. Every cut and color is tailored to the client’s unique texture, lifestyle, and personality, resulting in timeless looks that enhance natural beauty and inspire confidence. His commitment to hair health is equally strong, guiding clients away from damaging at-home color attempts and toward professional techniques that protect vibrancy and integrity. Liell’s greatest inspiration has always been their mother—a woman of elegance, glamour, and impeccable style. Her influence continues to fuel his dedication to helping others feel beautiful, confident, and authentically themselves. Outside the salon, Liell finds balance and creativity through fitness, yoga, travel, and interior design. As the in-salon color educational director at Maxine Salon, he works quietly at the intersection of discipline and instinct, blending technical precision with a cultivated, personal point of view. His work is refined, intentional, and never performs for attention. Rex’s relationship with color began early, late nights experimenting in his mom’s kitchen, guided by curiosity, music, and a willingness to trust instinct over rules. That early rebellion evolved into a deep respect for craft. Today, he is sought out for his mastery of balayage, foil highlighting, corrective color, and single and double process work, as well as for a skill that cannot be taught, knowing exactly when to do less. His education spans the globe, with advanced training from Vidal Sassoon, L’Oréal Professionnel, and Toni & Guy, and includes time on the L’Oréal Professionnel Technical Team. At the core of Rex’s work is color truth. He does not chase trends or dramatic reinvention. If you were a blonde child, he knows how to bring that luminosity back, softly and believably. The references are timeless rather than trendy, the ease of Gisele, the undone warmth of Drew Barrymore. The result is hair that feels lived in, confident, and entirely your own. Rex created and leads the Maxine's color training program, shaping emerging colorists through a thoughtful approach to technique, intuition and individualized artistry. His work has been recognized by Allure Magazine, where he was featured in the September 2014 Directory, a quiet acknowledgment of both technical excellence and aesthetic authority. In October 2019, his foil highlighting concept “Tweed” was featured in Vogue, Allure Glamour, Pop Sugar, Good Morning America, and more. Outside the salon, Rex draws inspiration from art, fashion, photography, music, and cultural spaces where creativity and refinement coexist without announcement. His influences favor those who evolve gracefully, who understand that true style speaks softly and lasts. Rex’s philosophy is simple and exacting. Great color should feel inevitable. It should elevate without distraction, refine without erasing, and leave you looking unmistakably like yourself, only more luminous, more confident, and completely at ease **Where did you grow up?** Madison, Wisconsin **What neighborhood do you live in?** Andersonville **What do you do in your free time?** Knitting, crafting, antiques and thrifting, fitness, mindfulness and healthy living. **Favorite thing to do on a free Sunday?** A museum or a Ravinia show. **Who is your style icon?** Vivienne Westwood. **What movie character is most like you?** Veronica Sawyer in Heathers **Who is your celebrity crush?** Luke Macfarlane - [Instagram](https://instagram.com/colorbyrex/) [View Profile](https://www.maxinesalon.com/team/rex/) ### Robert — Colorist A colorist since 1987, Robert excels at structured, disciplined color placement for soft, natural foil highlights. Being a natural redhead with a mass of curls, it brought a lot of unwanted attention and dictation on what I should or shouldn’t do. (Being told NEVER to color it.) Once I turned 18 and discovered hair, hair autonomy, I dove headfirst into the world of hair. Growing strong in my abilities, I now want to give that knowledge and self-expression to everyone. **If there was a movie about your life, what would it be called?** The title of my movie would be “Golden Rule.” Follow in the steps of kindness and you will find fulfillment. (The hook to my movie’s preview.) **If there were a movie about your life, what would it be called?** The title of my movie would be “Golden Rule.” Follow in the steps of kindness and you will find fulfillment (the hook to my movie’s preview). **Favorite thing to do on a free Sunday?** My ideal Sunday, I get to sleep in. As much as I like to think I’m an early bird, my body says otherwise. Starting my day around 10 a.m., I drink some coffee and grab breakfast, all while I listen to my favorite true crime podcast, “Morbid.” Then, after checking off some “adulting tasks,” I gather either a journal or book, anything but a screen, and make my way to the lake to sit by the water and relax the mind. **What is your daily hair routine?** After many years of putting my curls through the worst, doing anything I could to fit in and look like everyone else (destroying my curl pattern), I’ve learned to embrace it, wearing it like a crown. Keeping it clean, shampooing 2x a week, following with intense, moisturizing conditioners. Styling at night, I will prep my hair for braids; I apply a light amount of priming lotion, followed by a styling butter and light-hold gel. Styling in the morning, I apply all the same products minus the gel to help the air-drying process go quicker, and that’s that. Let it expand to its maximum capacity!
